MCAT Tip of the Week

Before starting your MCAT preparation, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements for taking the test in Canada. Generally, the MCAT is open to individuals who are planning to apply to medical schools. Here are the key criteria:

  • Enrollment in or completion of a health-related undergraduate degree: Most students take the MCAT after completing courses in biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and sociology.
  • Proof of intention to apply to a health profession school: If you’re not enrolled in a degree program, you may need to provide proof that you’re applying to a medical or health-related graduate program. Some students also take the MCAT before finishing their degree if they plan on applying to medical school in the near future.
  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents: There are no specific nationality requirements for Canadian test-takers, but it's essential to check the medical school requirements for the programs you are applying to.
  • Test limits: The MCAT can be taken up to 3 times in a single testing year, 4 times over a two-year period, and 7 times in a lifetime. Make sure to plan accordingly if you're retaking the exam.
  • Special accommodations: If you have a disability or health-related needs, you can apply for accommodations through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
